Research and Development

The Research and Development (R&D) team at BMR consists of scientists, engineers and medical consultants who drive cutting-edge product research and advanced engineering design of new products, for both Slendertone® and neurotech® divisions of the business.

Our products present a demanding challenge to our R&D team as they combine life sciences and engineering in developing solutions for customers in rehabilitation and exercise. The science underlying BMR products is the physiology of exercise, and how the body responds to exercise.

The R&D team has expertise in:

• Exercise science
• Electronics
• Mechanical engineering
• Embedded software

and our laboratories include facilities for:

• Testing the effects of exercise on the body
• Engineering development equipment supporting electronic circuit design
• Software development
• Computer aided design
• Electronic testing

The design team works closely with local and international universities to research and develop new products.

Medical Standards
User safety is paramount, so all BMR muscle stimulation products are designed and independently certified to the international medical safety standard ISO EN 60601. The design process itself is also certified to the highest international standard for medical devices, ISO 13485.

Innovation
Our design team in Galway has been awarded many patents recognising the innovation basis of the products it has produced. Every year our team files new patent applications world-wide reflecting a pattern of continuous innovation.

Clinical Trials

BMR products are supported by clinical research, which provides evidence of product effectiveness. This ensures that when a consumer purchases one of our products anywhere in the world they can rest assured that any claims that we make are actual, verified and achievable.
