Questions about Electrodes/Conductive Gel Pads

What is the difference between electrodes and conductive gel pads?                                                       Electrodes attach to lead wires and conductive gel pads attach to conductive garments and braces. The questions and answers listed below can be applied to both electrodes and conductive gel pads.

I think I am allergic to the electrodes.  How do I know for sure?                                                                                A small number of isolated skin reactions, including allergies and acne, have been reported in association with NMES devices.  Consult with your doctor.

I am bruising under my electrodes, what should I do?                                                                                Discontinue use and consult with your doctor.

Do the electrodes have latex?                                                                                                                               Neurotech electrodes and gel pads are latex-free.  Make sure to only use CE approved, BMR-authorized biocompatible conductive gel pads.

When I took the electrodes off, my skin was red?                                                                                                     What happened?  A slight reddening of the skin is quite normal under the electrodes during and for a short time after treatment.  If the redness persists, consult with your doctor.

My electrodes do not stay on, how do I fix this problem?                                                                                          To improve the adhesive strength of the electrodes, re-hydrate them with a few drops of water, rubbing the water in to the gel surface.

My electrodes stick too much, what should I do to reduce the stickiness?                                               Electrode stickiness is desirable.  It indicates complete contact with your skin and thus, good conductivity of the electrical current.

How often do the electrodes need to be changed?                                                                                                    With daily application, covering after each use, the electrodes should last at least 4 weeks.  If usage is less frequent, the lifespan will be longer.

How do I clean the electrodes?                                                                                                                           Electrodes do not require cleaning.  After each treatment, cover the conductive surface of each pad with the  plastic liner supplied with the electrode.

How do I extend the life of the electrodes?                                                                                                                Caring for electrodes by always replacing the plastic liner after each use will ensure that the electrodes will not prematurely lose their strength.  Also, do not expose the electrodes to temperature extremes (consult the Instructions for Use document of your device for the acceptable temperature range).

Which side of the conductive gel pads do I apply against the Kneehab garment?                                            The side of the conductive gel pad that is printed with a grid should be placed against the garment.  The solid color side makes contact with the skin.

The lead wires have exposed wires what should I do?                                                                                         When connecting the electrodes to the leads, you should insert the lead pin completely into the socket on the electrode, ensuring that none of the metal is visible.  If wire is visible, do not use the device.
